Michael Jackson New Album?

Michael Jackson New Album Preview? 2007 2008?

Is this the new Michael Jackson album? Has this got anything to do with good house music? I don't care! This is Michael Jackson! I don't profess to be an expert on the guy..or anything for that matter! These might have all been released before and I wouldn't know. They are all new to me anyway so I will quickly skim through this and give my thoughts. (Whether you want them or not..)

01 - Gangsta (No friend of mine) - with The Fugees .

Very modern production style track with the Fugees..have to say it is quite catchy with Michael Jackson featuring most prominently in the chorus and the last third where his vocals sounds as clean, crisp and great as ever! Some interesting brass in here as well..getting better on every listen..

02 - Xcape

Signature Michael Jackson tune with old skool production...that 1980's hard snare hit used on many of his older stuff.. Not got much time for this one..

03 - Why - with 3T

We are into the ballads here already as expected. When he does these well they sound so good. This is a nice tune. Reminsicent of the 2-3 top slow ones from his last album Invincible. 'Heaven Can Wait' and 'Break Of Dawn' spring to mind. This is well produced and the chorus is catchy as hell! To say this after hearing this once must say something! It is what it is-a slow Michael Jackson track.

04 - What more can I give

This is Michael Jackson in 'saving the world' mode. We have come to expect these from him now. Bit soppy for me this one.. Builds up into a mini choir towards the end asking what more they can give? Nothing vocally I would have to say and although I cannot fault the message, it is not my prefered style of tune. Not bad though but no Earth Song...!

05 - Todo para ti (What more can I give - Spanish version)

Was just about to say that this sounds like the last tune then realised it is the Spanish version..Nothing much to say on this but makes me think this is not the proper album release as the next track is yet another version of this same song. This would be highly unlikely?

06 - What more can I give/Todo para ti (Spanglish version)

Same..

07 - Let me let go

Sounds like a radio pop song to me..erm..

08 - Someone put your hand out

Back to the heartfelt songs. I feel he barely gets away with this 'hand out' lyric because of his
great voice..Ok though..

09 - Shout

Noisy and awful.

10 - I need you - with 3T

Downtempo.. Same old stuff..dramatic choir chorus..

11 - Ride with me - with Rodney 'Darkchild' Jenkins

The sound quality on this is not very good. Apart from that this is apparently Rodney Jerkins and has the oh so boring title of 'Ride With Me' (yawns loudly) This is in the style of Chris Brown or NeYo.. or any of these new skool rnb stars. It is ok though, not bad at all-for that style.

12 - Biggerman

I like this already from the opening bars. A minute or so in and only a trace of a vocal but a serious bassline and subtle instrumentation. Yes this is tasty! The sound isn't too good again on this but from what I can hear this is basically a dub and it's wicked. Never heard a track like this on a Michael Jackson record.

13 - Get out of my mind

Again this sounds good from the outset. The guitar lick keeps the ear interested..A bit different from the rest of the album..sounds a little dark.

14 - Mamacita - with Santana

This is ok, nothing special. Decent enough album track.

Well there we have it.. we don't know whether this is the new album or not but there are my opinionated thoughts on the matter! The best ones for me would have to be 'Gangsta' 'Why' 'Ride With Me' and 'Biggerman'

Hed Kandi Disco Heaven

Hed Kandi Disco Heaven October 2007

Well the new Hed Kandi is out...I am not sure whether I want to hate these now as they have just got worse and worse and just so commercial. Sometimes I think that people's tracks get on here because they are friends with whoever compiles them..
A few of these tracks are good but that will always be the case with a compilation. It just seems to not hit the mark for me, it is that 'funky' house music that for some reason doesn't 'have it' It is hard to explain what 'it' is but all the albums I have posted so far have 'it' and this one doesn't!
I find it strange how a song can have a bass, percussion and all the other attributes that make up a house tune but manage to lack soul?? Aha! Maybe that's what it is...I can find soul in music from all over the place from any genre but when I listen to this album I just hear the same old rubbish. Boring meaningless lyrics seem to be consistent all the way through or maybe they seem so because of the dated funky house production? Of course this is my opinion and could be subject to change.

The only 'highlights' here for me are the remake of Shannon's classic hit 'Let The Music Play' which I think works. 'Mi Amor' by Paul Rincon also seems ok because the vocal is quite interesting.. The My Friend Sam new mix of 'It's My Pleasure' works ok-possibly because of the familiar vocal and lyrics or maybe down to the nice old skool sounding piano? Finally, Alan Braxe and Chris Menace with their electric 80's tune 'Lumberjack'

My advice-go buy any other album featured on this blog so far, especially the Southport Weekender one with Kerri Chandler!

Of course these are my opinions so you can check it out yourself and tell me if you agree or not. I found some links so you can preview this yourself.

Dimitri From Paris A Night At The Playboy Mansion (2000)

I think this is widely regarded as somewhat of a classic. This was first brought to my attention by the Stetsasonic Remix of All That Jazz. Possibly one of the best remix hip hop tunes I have heard. I can't think of another rap tune that has had a house remix like this that worked so well. Other highlights for me are The Sunburst Band and Ashford and Simpson. This was from the time when disco house was big and this album surely is one of the best from this time.

Dimitri From Paris Cocktail Disco (2007)

This just has the 1970's written all over it! Sleazy funky orchestral disco grooves is the best way I can describe it. It's wicked. Real instruments! Flutes, horns, strings, trumpets-this is real sh*t! If you're one of those people who says things like-'that sounds like porn music from the 70's' then maybe you're listening to it the wrong way..or maybe not..you could be right..4/4 beats aplenty, loads of interesting percussion sounds, funky guitars...this has EVERYTHING. An absolute must for anyone into 70's music.

Larry Levan The Definitive Salsoul Mixes '78-'83, Mixed With Love - The Walter Gibbons Salsoul Anthology, Innocence Belief

Larry Levan The Definitive Salsoul Mixes '78-'83

Larry Levan. legend from the early days of disco and Paradise Garage. Marvellous and essential album comprising of some of his remixes. They certainly don't make them like this anymore! Mixed With Love - The Walter Gibbons Salsoul Anthology

Walter Gibbons was another early pioneer of the disco sound. Like Larry Levan, he used to create remixes specifically for the dancefloor. This collection is his work with Salsoul and is an yet another amazing album to grace this blog!

Innocence Belief (Cooltempo) 1990

Ultra cool soul album from 1990. This samples Pink Floyd throughout and almost comes off as a kind of concept album the way the tracks run into each other. Dark at times and often thoughtful this is an album you need on your cd rack. Check Amazon and you'll see it has 5 stars all the way. Nothing has sounded like this since, brilliant.

Marvin Gaye What's Going on/What's Happening Brother, Dimitri from Paris In The House Of Love

Marvin Gaye What's Going on/What's Happening Brother

No, it's not another boring Youtube link! This is the best 9 minutes and 5 seconds of your day today. Trust me. Watch it all. The breakdown in the middle is just amazing. If you are not feeling this then you are dead! This is one of the most powerful pieces of music and video footage I have ever seen. Enjoy. (Thanks Princess for sending me this link)

Defected In The House - Dimitri From Paris - In The House Of Love (2006)

Man, can Dimitri select tunes! What a killer album. I will always endeavour to give you quailty on here and this one is just that. 3 cds of wicked disco, orchestral strings and 4/4 beats! This has everything. CD 1 is a more uptempo groove and will have your feet tapping, thumbs out and heads nodding, not just to the beat, but in acknowledgement of this man's fine selection of music. CD2 'kicks off' with an absolute classic tune that I thought most had forgotten about, ..Black Box's 'Fantasy' from 1990-superb. The mix into the next Grace Jones number also works effortlessly...From there he takes us on a ride to heaven with sublime soul and cool disco delights. Change 'The Glow Of Love'...then back up for Incognito's 'Givin'It Up' and into Double Danny D's breakbeat backed old skool flavours....This is a MUST..

Hed Kandi World Series Mixes (2003)

Yes we all know where the majority of Hed Kandi releases are at the moment..Barring the Back To Love series, which cannot fail, the majority of other albums are poor, watered down commercial drivel from what I've heard..Correct me if I'm wrong! Minnie Riperton Les Fleurs Anthology

Just spotted this from the late great Minnie Riperton. She is my favourite feamle vocalist of all time, I would have to say. Instead of going down the tried and tested route of slating this for 'not keeping it real' and being a compilation album, I will say that this is a good introduction to Minnie's work. In fact it is a VERY good album. One should bear in mind that when purchasing a compilation such as this you are also paying for the remastering and normalising etc..of all these tracks, that is worth the money alone! This is a true legend. What's Minnie Riperton got to do with good house music? I feel these things are all linked...

1. I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun
2. Reasons
3. Every Time He Comes Around
4. Young Willing And Able
5. Inside My Love
6. Memory Lane
7. Love Hurts
8. Here We Go
9. You Take My Breath Away
10. Strange Affair
11. Take A Little Trip
12. I'm A Woman
13. Lovin' You
14. Les Fleurs
15. Light My Fire
